NYC hospital settles with family in waiting room death – CNN.com

Posted using ShareThis

I was wondering what was happening in this case and now we have the answer. Two million certainly does not seem like much for this woman’s life considering she waited for help for over 24 hours, collapsed in the waiting room and was ignored and even laughed at while she lay there dying from blood clots from the legs to her lungs. I hope her family is able to finally move on with their lives and that this woman can now rest in peace.

Family sues Millville nursing home | thedailyjournal.com | The Daily Journal

Posted using ShareThis

As my parents get older, these stories bother me more. Reading the story above, I know that dealing with those with dementia and Alzheimer’s is extremely difficult, but it would be a last resort for me to do that. In reading this article, even the Office of the State Advocate in Wisconsin found after an 18 month investigation, that the nursing home mislead the family in telling them that their mother could stay when she ran out of money and when she qualified for Medicaid. It will be interesting to see if the nursing home settles this one or takes it to trial.

Just click on this paragraph to take you to a great site put together by Sean Askay of San Francisco. On his blog, Mapthefallen.org he explains how he came to design this site to honor more than 5,700 American and Coalition serviceman and women that have lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. The map uses Google Earth 5.0, and it is a great site that connects you with each of the servicemen and women’s stories, where you can see photos, learn how they died, and visit memorial websites with comments from friends and families and explore the places they called home. If you don’t have Google Earth 5.0 you will need to download it to view.

With Memorial Day approaching, we should all take the time to reflect on those that have died for their Country and those that served their Country.

lawjobs.com Career Center – Commentary: Internet Law and Your Rights

Posted using ShareThis

This is an interesting article written by adjunct professor Jonathan Bick who discusses the rights we have in sending what we feel are confidential emails or messages over the internet.  He recommends sending all with a disclaimer, or perhaps attaching the message and even password protecting the information to provide even more protection and a showing that privacy is intended for the message.    Professor Bick has also written a book “101 Things You Need To Know About Internet Law”.

I think I will check this book out, sounds like it could be very helpful as well as interesting.  If any of you have read it, I would welcome your comments about it as well.

Texas police shake down drivers, lawsuit claims – CNN.com

Posted using ShareThis

This is an interesting and frightening case.  I bet this happens more in this country than we realize.  People are afraid to come forward when this happens, especially when the perpetrators are the very ones who are supposed to be protecting them!  Anderson Cooper will have more on his show tonight.  I plan on watching to see what more he comes up with.
